The Author Days of August

Aug 16, 2024

August has a feel of it’s own. Summer is still present but Autumn waits in the wings. I used to feel the tug of September because I was returning to school, preparing to re-enter my busy teaching routine and thinking of getting my classroom ready. Then as a full time author writing ten months a year and taking the summers off I would be gearing up to get back to my office. The last few years have changed that schedule a bit as we no longer bring our granddaughters home from Alberta for the summer or maintain a huge garden. I wrote in July but have pretty much taken August off . I spent time reading some of my previously published books as I wait for the final stretch before Such a Winter’s Day goes off to the printer. I go to the farmer’s market every Saturday offering up my work for sale and gain huge rewards from that effort. On Wednesday evening I had a virtual reading sponsored by TWUC ( The Writer’s Union of Canada). Tomorrow Burton and I head to Newfoundland to visit friend and fellow author Ida Linehan Young. We were lucky to meet this amazing funny and wise woman on our first Go and Write Retreat to Scotland and had the pleasure of her company on a second trip to Scotland and our December Go and Write Retreat in Ireland. Now we get to meet her husband Thomas and spend some time in their new home in St. Brides. And she ambitiously organized an author event while we are there. I am so looking forward to being in the company of NFLD authors. Thank you Ida!!
